Standards to ensure your safety

The initial tests, both technical and with potential customers, having proved conclusive, Alain Belkadi wanted to submit his development to the rigors of standardization. This was a prerequisite for any large-scale commercial rollout on European markets, and more generally an ethical necessity. But when the company turned to certification bodies, it discovered that no buoyancy standard existed for children!

There were dozens of classifications for swimming pools, supervised bathing areas, balls, inflatable boats, but nothing for the swimsuits float devices that we put on our children.

CRITT Sports et Loisirs therefore undertook to develop this standard with the active support and expertise of Greystone, and therefore of Plouf!

Quite logically, the brand was the first to benefit, as early as 2001, from the NF EN 13138-1 standard, and has since continued to meet the strictest European standardization criteria, thus guaranteeing market access and building the Plouf brand!

A fight against drowning

Among children aged 1 to 14, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death, after traffic accidents. When they do not result in death, they sometimes leave serious after-effects, particularly neurological ones, in children.

The risk is all the greater in France, where there are more than 1.8 million private swimming pools, all of which must comply with strict safety standards.

Within this market, the second largest in the world behind the United States, everything is done to make the area safe: barriers at regulated height, standardized openings, mandatory alarms...

Yet nothing is provided for, apart from adult supervision, when the child is within the pool perimeter.

ISO standards and other standards for Plouf products

Standard NF EN 13138-1: 2014 “specifies the safety requirements relating to the manufacture, performance, sizing, marking, and information provided by the manufacturer of swimming aids designed to help beginner users move in the water when they are learning to swim or when they are learning part of a swimming movement.”

The EN ISO 12405-5.50N Standard has been applied to the foul-weather suit for sailors and seafarers – allowing it to provide comfort of movement while being supported by 50 N buoyancy .

Regarding NF EN 15649 Standard, it applies to floating leisure articles in the water toys category (class D) to fully enjoy this revolutionary towel.
