Once again this year, Plouf is taking part in Nice 's "J'apprends à nager" (Learn to swim) operation, in partnership with the French Swimming Federation and the French Ministry of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Operation J'apprends à Nager is a nationwide initiative designed to give French children the opportunity to learn to swim for free. Launched by the French Ministry of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the operation is aimed primarily at children aged 6 to 12 who do not have access to swimming lessons. Since its inception, the operation has reached thousands of children, making a significant contribution to reducing the risk of drowning and promoting water safety in France.
Learning to swim is an essential skill for children, both for their safety and their personal development. Swimming boosts self-confidence, improves physical fitness and encourages perseverance. What's more, drowning statistics show an urgent need for aquatic education: in 2023, almost 1,300 accidental drownings were recorded, a significant proportion of which involved children. Hence the crucial importance of initiatives such as J'apprends à Nager.
The aim of the operation is clear: to :
Perfectly organized by Nice Natation Azur, the operation offers a complete and free learn-to-swim program:
- A 10-hour learn-to-swim course, with sessions lasting from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the level and age of the children
- The group is made up of 8 to 15 children who do not know how to swim
- Swimming sessions are taught by a professional
- Lessons are free upon registration and subject to availability of places
- At the end of the learn-to-swim course, children who have developed the necessary skills can take the Sauv'nage test.
Our instructors are qualified professionals, certified by the French Swimming Federation. With years of experience and specific training in teaching children to swim, they ensure safe and educational supervision adapted to each child. They are familiar with floating swimsuit Plouf and know how to guide children using it for the first time.
Since the creation of Plouf, we have been committed to promoting water safety and providing resources for learning to swim. Founded in 2001, our mission is to reduce the risk of drowning by helping people learn to swim and raising awareness. Our specialty is the floating swimsuit children's device, which combats fear of water, helps learn to swim and prevents drowning.
Every year since 2022, Plouf has contributed to Opération J'apprends à Nager at Nice by providing floating swimsuits that are made available to participating children. Plouf 's commitment is to help Nice lifeguards in their mission by providing them with tools to reassure less confident children during group sessions, and to help families who will be able to keep the swimsuit to keep their child safe during private swims.
Swimming offers many physical and mental benefits for children. It improves cardiovascular fitness, strengthens muscles and develops motor coordination. Psychologically, swimming helps develop self-confidence and discipline. All children can benefit from swimming. In this Olympic Games season, they can even dream of becoming champions in their own right, like our hero Léon Marchand, multiple gold medallist at this Paris 2024 edition.
Learning to swim is also a vital skill, increasing children's safety around water and reducing the risk of drowning. By training thousands of children nationwide every year, the J'apprends à Nager operation helps to reduce drowning and raise a new generation's awareness of aquatic risks and good safety practices. By taking part in this operation, we are making a further commitment to the community and to drowning prevention on a national level.
We would like to thank all our partners, parents and participants for their commitment. Your participation is essential to the success of this initiative. Operation J'apprends à Nager is more than just a swimming program: it's a vital initiative for the safety and well-being of children. Plouf is proud to be part of it. Let's continue together to promote water safety and give our children the skills they need to evolve safely in the water.
